Job Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controller to join a prominent Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance carrier. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a well-established company that is looking to strengthen its finance team. As the Controller, you will play a key role in overseeing all accounting activities, managing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with insurance industry regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the financial accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage the preparation and analysis of financial reports including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Oversee the preparation of statutory filings and ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies and business plans.
- Ensure the integrity of financial data by establishing and monitoring internal controls and procedures.
- Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Coordinate with external auditors during year-end audits and resolve audit inquiries.
- Manage cash flow and optimize working capital through effective forecasting and budgeting.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, tax filings, and other legal obligations.
- Support the development and maintenance of the company's annual budget and financial forecasts.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments, including underwriting, claims, and investments, to ensure financial accuracy and alignment with overall business goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role within the P&C insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Proven experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in a regulated environment.
- Solid understanding of insurance accounting, including claims reserves, reinsurance, premium receivables, and loss development.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (experience with [insert specific software] is a plus).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
