Oliver James is please to partner with one of Chicago's most prominent insurers in a search to round out their financial reporting team. Based in the heart of downtown; this hybrid opportunity offers a unique mix of large company perks (great benefits, structured career pathways), and cohesive team structure (tenured leadership, hands on training). Ideal candidates will come from the insurance industry and have experience producing quarterly/annual STAT financial statements.

Overview:


Our client, one of the nation's leading specialized insurance carriers, is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its Financial Reporting team in downtown Chicago. This opportunity is ideal for a self-starter eager to grow their career and broaden their expertise in external reporting. Candidates will benefit from exposure to multiple reporting frameworks (GAAP, STAT, SEC), a senior leadership team ready to mentor, and excellent in-house career pathways. Ideal candidates will bring high attention to detail, and 2+ years of hands on experience with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in accordance with SAP

  • Provide accounting guidance to the operational accounting team

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors by supplying necessary documentation and support

  • Create analytical reports, variance analyses, and respond to internal data requests

  • Take initiative on and complete process improvement initiatives

  • Support state-specific filing requirements when necessary

  • Perform other assigned duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

  • Minimum of two years of experience in financial reporting

  • Knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting principles

  • Familiarity with U.S. GAAP and/or SEC reporting preferred

  • Experience with Workday Financials is a plus

  • Intermediate MS Excel (Pivot Tables & Lookup Functions)
  • Clear and effective communication skills
