Linux System Engineer

About the Role: We are on the lookout for a highly skilled Linux System Administrator/Engineer to enhance our dynamic IT team. This role calls for a proactive problem-solver who excels in system administration, troubleshooting, and infrastructure projects.
- Key Responsibilities:
System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and related software.
- Optimize system performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
- Conduct regular system monitoring and verify the integrity of hardware and server resources.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and system issues.
- Support application deployments and upgrades.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and uphold security best practices, including system hardening and patch management.
- Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Automation and Scripting:
- Develop and maintain automation scripts in Bash, Python, etc.
- Automate routine tasks to enhance efficiency and reduce human error.
- Manage and optimize system backup and recovery processes.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and procedures.
- Generate reports on system performance, uptime, and security incidents.
- Provide input for capacity planning and future infrastructure needs.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Collaborate with IT team members, developers, and stakeholders to support business objectives.
- Mentor junior team members and share knowledge within the team.
- Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator/Engineer.
- Strong experience with various Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Proxmox).
- Proven experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Docker Swarm, Nomad/Consul.
Skills:
- Proficiency in shell scripting and at least one additional programming language (e.g., Python, Perl).
- Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., GitLab).
Certifications:
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), or CompTIA Linux+ are highly desirable but not mandatory
