The 3rd largest provider of medical professional liability (MPL) insurance in New York and the 13th largest in the U.S., with over $170 million in annual premiums, is seeking a Complex Claims Specialist to join its expanding team. This position will play a key role in managing complex, high-exposure medical malpractice claims for both physicians and healthcare facilities.

This role involves the direct management of the company's most complex and high-exposure claims, with a particular focus on medical professional liability. The Complex Claims Specialist oversees critical tasks such as coverage verification, detailed investigations, claim reserving, settlement negotiations, and litigation management, including monitoring trials and ensuring resolution of significant cases. Responsibilities include closely collaborating with defense counsel on litigation strategies, maintaining budget adherence, and engaging in productive communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring 7-10 years of direct claim handling experience, with a strong background in medical professional liability claims. This role requires a four-year degree (a legal background is preferred), exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple high-stakes cases effectively. Teamwork and continuous learning are key components, as well as participation in departmental projects and initiatives. The position requires strict adherence to confidentiality, as well as the ability to present confidently in both small and large settings.
