They are seeking a highly skilled Technical Accounting Lead to join their dynamic finance team. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing complex transactions, and supporting strategic financial initiatives.
Position Overview:
As the Technical Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing accounting policies, providing guidance on complex transactions, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, STAT, and evolving regulatory requirements. This position requires deep expertise in life insurance and annuities accounting, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions, including reinsurance, derivatives, and policyholder reserves.
Monitor and implement new accounting standards (e.g., LDTI, IFRS 17) and assess their impact on financial reporting.
Support financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP, STAT, and SEC regulations.
Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and investment teams to ensure accurate financial representation of insurance and investment products.
Assist in the preparation of white papers and accounting memos for internal and external stakeholders.
Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and senior management to address accounting and reporting inquiries.
Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
5+ years of experience in technical accounting, with a focus on life insurance and annuities.
Strong understanding of US GAAP, STAT, and regulatory frameworks (SEC, NAIC, FASB).
Prior experience in public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm) or within a life insurance carrier preferred.
Familiarity with LDTI, IFRS 17, and other evolving accounting standards.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
